Mozilla Labs 剛剛推出了新產品 - Ubiquity，這是一個 Firefox extension 令到使用者使用文字指令來連接、使用不同的 web services，以下是 Ubiquity 的目標。

• Empower users to control the web browser with language-based instructions. (With search, users type what they want to find. With Ubiquity, they type what they want to do.)
• Enable on-demand, user-generated mashups with existing open Web APIs. (In other words, allowing everyone–not just Web developers–to remix the Web so it fits their needs, no matter what page they are on, or what they are doing.)
• Use Trust networks and social constructs to balance security with ease of extensibility.
• Extend the browser functionality easily.

我自己覺得 Ubiquity 感覺有點像 Mac 的 Quicksilver，一個 browser 版的 Quicksilver，但某程度上比 Quicksilver 更有彈性，因為 Quicksilver 已經規範了所有 command 是在 subject-action-object 的 model 內，而 Ubiquity 這方面就更自由，可以自行編寫 command 或者使用其他人開發的 commands 來達到不同的目的。是否覺得很抽象？看看以下的介紹影片，會比純粹的文字描述清楚得多。

當 web services 愈出愈多時，怎樣方便使用它們變成一個很重要的課題，難道真的要開數個 tabs 連接不同的網站，再 copy and paste 才可？

Ubiquity 的出現正正是針對解決這個問題，雖然現時 Ubiquity 只是 alpha version，但我覺得可用性已經相當不俗，我很看好這個概念、這種方便人使用 web 的方法，當 IE8 還在埋首支援更多 web standard、改善效能的時候，Mozilla 已經開展另一個方向，令 Firefox 推上更高的層次，亦令我對 Firefox 的依賴度進一步提升。 :P
